The International Francophone Chess Meeting is organised by AIDEF, an organisation affiliated with FIDE that promotes chess across French-speaking countries and regions.

Since receiving official recognition within the FIDE framework, RIDEF has become one of the most important recurring chess events in the Francophone world, attracting titled players, federation representatives, coaches, arbiters, and chess enthusiasts from multiple continents.
